What to Pack:
Snow days with the family are the best. Be prepared and know what to pack if you're going to relax or ski. Included in the post is a list of must haves you'll need and ideas on what to do when you're taking a trip with the kids.
We try to go once a year in January for my Birthday weekend. Every time we drive up to Lake Tahoe we find a new spot to play in the snow, eat or shop.
My hubby planned a nice 5 day trip that was so relaxing ! I was so nervous about taking our boxer, Gabana that she would be afraid of the snow. She actually loved it ! We got her all the gear she needed like a jacket and boots to keep her warm.
Places to go :
We love visiting the Heavenly area close the the Gondola where there's places to eat, shop, go ice skating, and watch a movie. Our favorite spot to eat is Base Camp Pizza it has an upbeat vibe and the pizza is delicious. We did try a new spot California Burger that was amazing and the live music was so relaxing. Right behind the Lake Tahoe Resort is a cool spot to play in the snow and it's free! We took the kids to the arcade in Harvey's Hotel but limited it to one night! The games are so expensive.
Snow Parks:
Hansen's is a cool spot but it's so expensive and the walk up the hill just isn't worth it to me. Adventure Mountain seems to be the spot to go. There's a line almost every time we attempt to get in and turned away because it's at capacity before the park even opens. I suggest getting there by 8:30 am, seriously.
Snowmobiling:
Last year when we visited we weren't able to go on a snowmobile tour with the kids so we opted to head over by Lira's Market off Highway 50. You'll find a tubing hill and you can rent snowmobiles to ride around their track for 30 min or 1 hr.
Skiing and Snowboarding :
Honestly, no one in our family really does either. I tried snowboarding once and would rather not feel the pain of falling and being sore for a week, so I'll pass. The boys are so athletic that next time I do want them to get lessons and learn how to snowboard. I bought them a board to practice on and they did pretty well on it.

The views in Tahoe are amazing! Grab some fresh air and go for a walk, take pictures, enjoy a cup of coffee outside, walk the shops close to the casinos or try your luck on the tables.
Here's a little video to of our family trip for my birthday weekend. I think this time around wasn't as chaotic since I was prepared with just about anything we could need for 5 days in the snow.
